Packers trade target’s stock is rising as Brian Gutekunst sits on his hands

The Green Bay Packers have an obvious need for a wide receiver, and one target they are linked to is seeing an increase in their stock.

The Green Bay Packers enter Week 7 with a 3-3 record, and they are experiencing some troubles on offense. Specifically, the passing game. The wide receiver corps in Green Bay this season is drastically different, as Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling are no longer with the team.

With the Packers sitting at .500 and the rival Minnesota Vikings sitting atop the NFC North division, there is an opportunity for the team to make some upgrades by the Nov. 1 NFL trade deadline. Specifically, make an addition to their wide receiver depth chart.

One name that they have been linked to is Chase Claypool of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Packers linked to Chase Claypool ahead of NFL trade deadline

The Steelers are 2-4 on the season after their win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which subsequently ended their four-game losing streak. Claypool played a significant role in the victory, as he caught all seven of his targets for 96 yards and one touchdown.

When it comes to links, Claypool is no stranger to the Packers. ESPN Jeremy Fowler noted in his latest NFL trade deadline buzz article (ESPN+ subscription required) that a few general managers expect the Packers to look for a wide receiver on the trade market. Fowler then listed Claypool as a “player who makes sense” for Green Bay.

This season, Claypool recorded 23 receptions for 225 yards and one touchdown on 36 targets.

The Packers have dealt with a relatively young wide receivers corps this season, while dealing with injuries to second-round pick Christian Watson and free agent signing Sammy Watkins. With the deadline just weeks away, it will remain to be seen if the Packers are able to make an addition. If not, they will have to pivot to free agency, with the top target being Odell Beckham Jr. However, the former Los Angeles Ram has plenty of suitors.
