3 quarterbacks who played like they should be benched in Week 8

A pair of top picks from the 2021 NFL Draft played like they should be benched in Week 8 as poor quarterback play cost the Jets and Jaguars wins.

The NFL is a passing league and teams that don’t have quarterbacks don’t go very far. This mentality is why quarterbacks are often taken with the top picks in the NFL Draft, making misses at the top of the board detrimental and ones that can set franchises back for years.

There was some truly awful quarterback play in Week 8 but these three signal callers played like they deserved to be benched going forward. While any of these three seeing the pine is highly unlikely, the performances these passers delivered cost their teams a victory.

Derek Carr

QB 15/26, 101 yds, 0 TD, 1 INT

The Las Vegas Raiders thought they had a shot to get back in the Wild Card picture in the AFC but laid an egg in New Orleans as they were upset by the Saints. Derek Carr didn’t help the cause by being completely ineffectual for the Raiders, completing just 15-of-26 passes for 101 yards with an interception as Las Vegas was shut out.

The Raiders did end up waving the white flag late in the game, pulling Carr for Jarrett Stidham, but Carr is going to be the guy for Las Vegas going forward. Averaging 3.9 yards per pass attempt is simply not an acceptable performance for a team with Davante Adams headlining a talented group of pass catchers.
