NFL quarterback rankings, Week 9: Aaron Rodgers has no shot

The Green Bay Packers have no credible receivers, leaving quarterback Aaron Rodgers under duress and undermanned on a weekly basis.

Our 2022 FanSided NFL quarterback rankings go live each Wednesday morning throughout the regular season, and we use a sliding scale incorporating current and past performances, with the former meaning more as the year goes on.

NFL quarterback rankings

32

Malik Willis

Last Week: NA Tennessee Titans

2022 stats: 61 yards | 50.0 comp % | 0 TD | 1 INT | 4.4 YPA | 4.0 QBR

Willis did virtually nothing in his first start. He posted a hideous 4.5 QBR, throwing for 55 yards and an interception on 10 attempts.

31

Sam Ehlinger

Last Week: NA Indianapolis Colts

2022 stats: 201 yards | 73.9 comp % | 0 TD | 0 INT | 8.7 YPA | 66.9 QBR

Ehlinger played well in his first chance as the starter, completing 17-of-23 attempts for 201 yards. If he can continue on this trajectory, he’ll shoot up the rankings.

30

Kenny Pickett

Last Week: 31 Pittsburgh Steelers

2022 stats: 962 yards | 67.9 comp % | 2 TD | 8 INT | 5.8 YPA | 38.6 QBR

Another start, another turnover. Pickett has now thrown eight interceptions. Yes, the Steelers aren’t good around him, but this needs to be corrected.

29

P.J. Walker

Last Week: 30 Carolina Panthers

2022 stats: 614 yards | 62.5 comp % | 3 TD | 1 INT | 7.7 YPA | 30.0 QBR

Walker was largely forgettable save for an incredible 62-yard touchdown in the final seconds of regulation to D.J. Moore. Unfortunately, two missed kicks derailed said moment.

28

Zach Wilson

Last Week: 25 New York Jets

2022 stats: 1,048 yards | 51.9 comp % | 3 TD | 5 INT | 7.4 YPA | 41.7 QBR

Wilson threw for 355 yards, but the real story was his sub-50 percent completion rate and three interceptions. Wilson can’t turn the ball over anywhere close to that pace and have the Jets in games.

27

Davis Mills

Last Week: 24 Houston Texans

2022 stats: 1,502 yards | 63.1 comp % | 8 TD | 6 INT | 6.4 YPA | 31.6 QBR

Mills posted a 7.1 QBR and continues to turn the ball over. His second season hasn’t been nearly as promising as last year’s rookie campaign.

26

Mac Jones

Last Week: NA New England Patriots

2022 stats: 993 yards | 65.9 comp % | 3 TD | 7 INT | 7.2 YPA | 33.6 QBR

Jones had an underwhelming day against the Jets, only able to find the end zone once. He also took six sacks and missed a few easy throws along with his early interception.

25

Taylor Heinicke

Last Week: 29 Washington Commanders

2022 stats: 480 yards | 67,2 comp % | 3 TD | 2 INT | 7.5 YPA | 46.8 QBR

Heinicke threw for 279 yards and led Washington down the field twice in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 unanswered points to beat the Colts. He keeps finding a way to win.

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

24

Justin Fields

Last Week: 27 Chicago Bears

2022 stats: 1,199 yards | 58.5 comp % | 7 TD | 6 INT | 7.5 YPA | 42.0 QBR

Fields is playing better, throwing for two touchdowns and avoiding a turnover against the Cowboys. It’ll be intriguing to see Fields with Chase Claypool now joining the offense.

23

Daniel Jones

Last Week: 21 New York Giants

2022 stats: 1,399 yards | 65.0 comp % | 6 TD | 2 INT | 6.4 YPA | 57.9 QBR

Jones had his worst day of the season. No interceptions against the Seahawks, but he threw for a paltry 5.7 yards per attempt and was sacked five times in defeat.

22

Andy Dalton

Last Week: 26 New Orleans Saints

2022 stats: 1,175 yards | 65.2 comp % | 9 TD | 4 INT | 7.3 YPA | 55.1 QBR

When Dalton hasn’t turned the ball over this season, he’s been effective. Against the Raiders, he protected the ball and directed a 24-0 blanking of Las Vegas.

21

Russell Wilson

Last Week: NA Denver Broncos

2022 stats: 1,694 yards | 58.8 comp % | 6 TD | 4 INT | 7.4 YPA | 35.8 QBR

Wilson went 18-of-30 for 252 yards with one touchdown and an interception, and somehow that’s the best game he’s had since Week 1.

20

Trevor Lawrence

Last Week: 15 Jacksonville Jaguars

2022 stats: 1,840 yards | 62.4 comp % | 10 TD | 6 INT | 6.6 YPA | 46.0 QBR

Lawrence has to stop making avoidable mistakes. Both his interceptions were horrid. His intentional grounding also cost Jacksonville a chance at three points.

19

Jacoby Brissett

Last Week: 22 Cleveland Browns

2022 stats: 1,862 yards | 63.9 comp % | 7 TD | 5 INT | 7.3 YPA | 60.7 QBR

Brissett is making all the plays he’s supposed to, even throwing with some deeper targets on Monday night. He’s done an admirable job keeping the Browns on the periphery of the playoff hunt.

18

Marcus Mariota

Last Week: 20 Atlanta Falcons

2022 stats: 1,432 yards | 62.9 comp % | 10 TD | 6 INT | 8.0 YPA | 61.4 QBR

Mariota had a fine afternoon against the Panthers, save for what could (should) have been a game-ending interception in overtime. All told, he notched 296 total yards.

17

Jimmy Garoppolo

Last Week: 19 San Francisco 49ers

2022 stats: 1,691 yards | 66.7 comp % | 11 TD | 4 INT | 8.0 YPA | 47.2 QBR

Garoppolo was incredibly efficient against the Rams, completing 21-of-25 passes while hitting on two touchdowns with zero turnovers.

Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

16

Kyler Murray

Last Week: 16 Arizona Cardinals

2022 stats: 1,993 yards | 66.2 comp % | 10 TD | 6 INT | 6.1 YPA | 48.3 QBR

Murray accounted for 362 total yards against the Vikings, but also threw two interceptions. The Cardinals don’t have the defense to survive turnovers.

15

Aaron Rodgers

Last Week: 13 Green Bay Packers

2022 stats: 1,800 yards | 66.4 comp % | 13 TD | 4 INT | 6.6 YPA | 38.2 QBR

Rodgers threw for 74 yards on Sunday night before two meaningless fourth-quarter drives. The Packers aren’t helping him, but Rodgers is also part of the problem with too many poor throws.

14

Tom Brady

Last Week: 12 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

2022 stats: 2,267 yards | 65.9 comp % | 9 TD | 1 INT | 6.7 YPA | 49.1 QBR

Brady continues to look as though he met his teammates last weekend. The Bucs aren’t executing in any phase. The offense has been anemic all year, despite legitimate talent.

13

Matthew Stafford

Last Week: 14 Los Angeles Rams

2022 stats: 1,763 yards | 70.5 comp % | 7 TD | 8 INT | 6.8 YPA | 48.3 QBR

Stafford has one play: throw to Cooper Kupp. When Kupp wasn’t targeted by Stafford, the Super Bowl champ threw for 108 yards on 21 attempts.

12

Jared Goff

Last Week: 17 Detroit Lions

2022 stats: 1,904 yards | 63.9 comp % | 12 TD | 6 INT | 7.6 YPA | 55.1 QBR

Goff is quietly playing well this season. The Lions only have one victory, but the veteran has put up plenty of points … the defense just keeps allowing more.

11

Derek Carr

Last Week: 9 Las Vegas Raiders

2022 stats: 1,621 yards | 62.9 comp % | 9 TD | 5 INT | 6.8 YPA | 59.2 QBR

Carr had one of the worst games of his career on Sunday in New Orleans, throwing for 101 yards and an interception while failing to reach midfield in a 24-0 loss.

10

Kirk Cousins

Last Week: 11 Minnesota Vikings

2022 stats: 1,734 yards | 66.3 comp % | 11 TD | 5 INT | 6.6 YPA | 49.7 QBR

Cousins was middling in a 34-26 win over Arizona. He only averaged 6.6 yards per attempt and loss a fumble, but also threw for two scores and zero interceptions.

8

Dak Prescott

Last Week: 8 Dallas Cowboys

2022 stats: 591 yards | 66.7 comp % | 3 TD | 2 INT | 7.3 YPA | 57.5 QBR

Prescott looked healthier than his first game back from a broken thumb. The Cowboys’ star threw for 250 yards and two touchdowns, helping Dallas roll up 49 points on Chicago.

8

Geno Smith

Last Week: 6 Seattle Seahawks

2022 stats: 1,924 yards | 72.7 comp % | 13 TD | 3 INT | 7.7 YPA | 66.6 QBR

Smith was relatively quiet this week in a 27-13 victory over the Giants, but he threw two more touchdowns without a turnover. He only drops because of a huge game from Tua Tagovailoa, and Lamar Jackson stepping up big in Tampa.

7

Joe Burrow

Last Week: 4 Cincinnati Bengals

2022 stats: 2,329 yards | 69.2 comp % | 17 TD | 6 INT | 7.6 YPA | 53.5 QBR

Without Ja’Marr Chase, the Bengals’ offense looked lost. Yes, the offensive line is once again a disaster, but Burrow played a poor game in Cleveland on his own merits as well.

6

Tua Tagovailoa

Last Week: 10 Miami Dolphins

2022 stats: 1,678 yards | 69.9 comp % | 12 TD | 3 INT | 9.0 YPA | 78.7 QBR

Tagovailoa continues to post big numbers. Against the Lions, the Hawaiian threw for 382 yards and three touchdowns, posting a QBR of 92.8.

5

Justin Herbert

Last Week: 5 Los Angeles Chargers

2022 stats: 2,009 yards | 65.9 comp % | 12 TD | 4 INT | 6.5 YPA | 55.6 QBR

Herbert comes out of Los Angeles’ bye facing a rough three-game stretch including the Falcons, 49ers and Chiefs. Huge month ahead.

4

Lamar Jackson

Last Week: 7 Baltimore Ravens

2022 stats: 1,635 yards | 63.0 comp % | 15 TD | 6 INT | 7.0 YPA | 63.7 QBR

Jackson has an excellent showing against Tampa Bay, accumulating 271 total yards and two touchdowns in a 27-22 triumph.

3

Jalen Hurts

Last Week: 3 Philadelphia Eagles

2022 stats: 1,799 yards | 67.0 comp % | 10 TD | 2 INT | 8.5 YPA | 60.7 QBR

Hurts is playing fantastic football. On Sunday, he torched the Steelers for four touchdowns and 285 passing yards on 10.2 yards per attempt. That’s MVP-level stuff.

2

Josh Allen

Last Week: 2 Buffalo Bills

2022 stats: 2,198 yards | 65.5 comp % | 19 TD | 6 INT | 8.3 YPA | 76.7 QBR

Allen stays in the No. 2 spot despite accounting for 267 total yards. Why? He was only 13-of-25 passing with two ugly interceptions. Still, perhaps nobody is feared more than Allen this year.

1

Patrick Mahomes

Last Week: 1 Kansas City Chiefs

2022 stats: 2,159 yards | 66.9 comp % | 20 TD | 5 INT | 8.2 YPA | 76.7 QBR

Mahomes comes out of the bye with a primetime home game against the Titans before welcoming the Jaguars to Arrowhead. Could be a big few weeks.
