Josh Allen injury uncertainty casts shadow over Bills

The Bills remain one of the NFL’s best, even after a shocking loss, but a Josh Allen injury and the uncertainty around it is a bad sign for Buffalo.

A Sunday to forget for the Buffalo Bills as their loss to the Jets could be getting even worse.

On Monday, some ominous social media comments from media surrounding the team seemed to indicate that an injury suffered by quarterback Josh Allen might be worse than it initially appeared. And that indeed turned out to be the case.

As reported by ESPN’s Chris Mortensen and others, Allen is currently undergoing tests on his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his throwing elbow in addition to the surrounding nerves. Mortensen added that Allen will undergo further testing and more information about the injury should be made available on Tuesday.

Josh Allen injury threatens to derail Bills season

For as talented as the Bills are on both sides of the ball, an injury to their star signal-caller is the one thing that this team can’t afford, especially with the increased competitiveness of the AFC East as the Jets and Dolphins have been surging early in the year.

Allen is the straw that stirs the drink for the Buffalo offense. His passing ability and, just as importantly, the danger that he presents to opposing defenses with his legs make him a weapon that simply can’t be replicated.

Case Keenum is a fine backup for Buffalo, but if there is serious damage to the UCL and the elbow that keeps Allen sidelined for an extended period of time, the Bills aren’t going to be able to wholly survive without him.

For a team that has legitimate Super Bowl aspirations and that has looked the part outside of the loss to New York this week, this is potentially devastating news. And now the Bills Mafia will be waiting with bated breath and hoping for the best about Allen’s elbow.
