Aaron Rodgers wants a warm reception for Mike McCarthy in Green Bay

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said on “The Pat McAfee Show,” that Dallas Cowboys head coach receives a warm welcome in return to Green Bay.

The Green Bay Packers are in a free fall, as their losing streak extended to five games this past weekend after losing to the rival Detroit Lions. Their schedule doesn’t get any easier, starting in Week 9, when they host a 6-2 Dallas Cowboys team returning from a bye. This game will be notable, as it will be Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy’s return to Green Bay for the first time since being let go as Packers sideline boss in 2018.

During his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show”, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said he plans on giving McCarthy “a big old hug,” and expressed his hope that he will receive a warm welcome at Lambeau Field.

“I’m going to give him a big old hug, I’ll tell you that much,” said Rodgers. “I shared some messages the past couple of weeks and I know it means a lot to him to come back. I really do hope though that the reception for him is as warm as it needs to be.”

On Monday, McCarthy spoke to the media about his return to Green Bay, and he became overcome with emotion when talking about what he misses most about the town.

“I mean it’s like anything, the people,” said McCarthy. “That’s why I think it’s been a great transition for our family, because our kids, obviously were born there, raised there. But to come here and this experience, I mean the lifestyle in Dallas, Texas is incredible. This has been an incredible, incredible opportunity for us as a family. But Jessica was born there, kids were born there…so people, I’ll miss the people.

Back in 2006, the Packers hired McCarthy to be their next head coach, taking over for Mike Sherman. During his tenure, McCarthy led the Packers to six NFC North titles, nine playoff appearances, and four trips to the NFC Championship Game. Perhaps McCarthy’s greatest accomplishment was coaching the team to a Super Bowl 45 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, winning the Lombardi Trophy for the first time in 14 years.

As Packers head coach, McCarthy accumulated a 125-77-2 regular-season record and a 10-8 playoff record.

The Cowboys are looking to continue their climb up the NFC East standing at the expense of the Packers, who are looking to finally bring an end to their lengthy losing streak.
