Selena Gomez, Meghan Markle, Hailey Bieber, and More Show Off Their ‘I Voted’ Stickers on Election Day

After what has objectively felt like a long, exhausting, never-ending year, Election Day is finally here—and so much is at stake. In this year’s midterm elections, voters will be deciding which party will dominate the U.S. House and Senate for the next two years, and as a result, whether President Joe Biden will be able to complete his legislative agenda this term. Voters will also be deciding on the future of essential issues like abortion rights, both at the state and federal level; after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade this June, some Republicans threatened to institute a national abortion ban, if they were to win both chambers of Congress, while Biden has promised to codify Roe into federal law if the Democrats can add a few more seats to the Senate.

But the midterms are also about more than who governs in Washington D.C.—they’re about which officials will lead your city, your town, your school boards, your local courts, and how those people will approach issues like reproductive rights, the climate crisis, the economy, education, and healthcare right in your own backyard. The New York Times’ editorial board has also urged voters to consider how many of these midterm races, including elections for secretary of state, attorney general, and governor, “will play crucial roles in overseeing and certifying the 2024 presidential election.”

To put it simply: This is an essential election, and no one can afford to sit on the sidelines, which makes it all the more encouraging to see some of the nation’s biggest celebrities urging everyone to get out and vote. From musicians like Billie Eilish and Alicia Keys to actors like Sofia Carson and Viola Davis, celebrities posted their “I Voted” stickers and asked their fans to make their voices heard. Because, as singer Kacey Musgraves wrote, “This is a big one.”
