Dak Prescott reveals private messages with OBJ and his interest in Dallas

Dak Prescott is among the many Cowboys who would like to see Odell Beckham Jr. in Dallas and the QB has reached out about the receiver’s interest.

The Dallas Cowboys proved in Week 11 that they are a Super Bowl contender with their drubbing of the previously one-loss Vikings. But owner Jerry Jones and many of the players on the roster are still looking to get better, specifically in one way: signing free-agent receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

Beckham, who tore his ACL with the Rams in the Super Bowl last year, has been the toast of the town in the second half of the 2022 season as he weighs his options as to where he could sign. The Cowboys have been heavily interested, as Jones and several players have expressed.

And now quarterback Dak Prescott has entered the chat.

Prescott spoke about Beckham when asked on Tuesday and said that the two have had communication while also affirming that there is mutual interest between the franchise and the pass-catcher.

Cowboys: Dak Prescott reveals messages with OBJ and interest level of receiver

Like many others in the organization, Prescott expressed how “special” adding Odell Beckham Jr. to the Dallas offense could be.

“When we’re playing like [how we did in Minnesota] and you’re able to add a talent like Odell, that can be special,” Prescott said, via Cowboys insider Patrik Walker. “That just creates more weapons for not only me, but for the offense [as a whole] and for the play-caller. It’s more things for the defense to worry about.”

The quarterback also noted that OBJ “knows” how much Prescott wants him to play in Dallas and that multiple teammates have reached out as well. He was then asked if he’d reached out directly, which he has.

“I’ve definitely sent some messages,” Prescott said, via Walker. “There’s been a little back-and-forth, just making sure that he understands that we want him here. … I don’t necessarily know about what he’s looking for when it comes to the numbers and the long-term and all that, but I know we want him here and I hope it all works out.”

Most importantly, Prescott stated that the Cowboys’ interest in OBJ was “mutual” and that the biggest thing about negotiations is “business” and not necessarily the interest between the two parties.

If you’re a Cowboys fan, though, this has to be music to your ears. Prescott’s communication with Beckham and what he’s saying tells us that the free-agent wide receiver is indeed interested in joining this team and that all it will come down to is dollars, cents, and how long he’ll be making those dollars and cents.

When it comes to a team that has Jerry Jones as the owner, though, you have to believe he’ll make the business-side work to land a player with the star power of OBJ, especially one that could be so valuable down the home stretch of the regular season and into the playoffs.
