Geno Smith offers further evidence that Russell Wilson was the problem with Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith has been on fire this season, and he’s proving that Russell Wilson was the issue on the team.

The Seahawks have a great quarterback, Geno Smith, on their hands this season. He currently leads the league in completion percentage (72.8). His talent, however, is doing more than proving himself. It’s proving that replacing Russell Wilson was a great option.

Wilson is having a tough season with the Denver Broncos. He currently has one of the worst (but not the worst) completion percentages (58.9) in the league. The Carolina Panthers even went as far as to mock him because he’s been having such a rough season.

While Wilson was a great quarterback for many years in Seattle, he just didn’t get the job done last season as the Seahawks finished last in the NFC West with a 7-10 record. Last season was one of the worsts of his career with 25 touchdowns and 3,113 yards recorded. Though it wasn’t necessarily a horrible season, Seattle is certainly doing better without him right now.

They’re not looking like contenders, but the issue most heavily lies in their defense at this point.

Seahawks defense is the biggest remaining issue

The Seahawks are far from perfect, but they’ve certainly upgraded their offense with Smith. Wilson unfortunately was becoming frustrating for fans to watch as he appeared to be entering a decline, and Seattle solved the problem with perfect timing considering his performance with the Broncos this season.

Their defense, however, has been a bit disappointing this season. Over the past two games alone, there was a combined five QB hits and just one sack. The offense has to work with extreme precision to make up for the lackluster offense, and Wilson just wouldn’t have been able to do that this season.

Smith’s success in holding down the team is further proving that Wilson was the issue last season.
