Tell Me Lies Season 2: What We Know So Far

Lucy and Stephen’s entanglement is not over yet—Tell Me Lies was just renewed for a second season on Hulu.

Adapted from Carola Lovering’s bestselling novel of the same name, the drama premiered in September starring Grace Van Patten as Lucy, a college freshman who gets swept up in a steamy, toxic, on-and-off romance with upperclassman Stephen (Jackson White) over the course of eight years. Though the initial season concluded after dark secrets from Stephen’s past came to light, it looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more of him.

Hulu announced the series’ renewal via Instagram on Nov. 29. Here’s what we could expect from the new season.

When will Tell Me Lies season 2 be released?

It’s still too early to say. Hulu’s announcement video simply said “Tell Me Lies season 2 is coming”—with no official release date.

The first season was ordered by Hulu in August 2021 and arrived on our screens in September 2022. Could this mean season 2 might arrive by the end of next year?

Who will be in the cast?

Along with Van Patten as Lucy and White as Stephen, the season 1 cast included Catherine Missal as Bree, Spencer House as Wrigley, Sonia Mena as Pippa, Alicia Crowder as Diana, Branden Cook as Evan, Benjamin Wadsworth as Drew, Zoe Renee as Charlie. It’s possible Lily McInerny might appear as Macy in flashbacks again. New casting announcements have not been made yet.

Meaghan Oppenheimer served as showrunner and executive producer. Emma Roberts, Karah Preiss, and Matt Matruski also executive produced under Belletrist Productions.

What will the second season be about?

While plot details are still under wraps, Oppenheimer is already picturing a big future for the series; she previously told ELLE.com “it would be amazing to have three or four seasons of this.”

As for where the story could go next after the season 1 finale, she added: “I’d love to see them through college, but I’d also love to see more of their adult years. I think it’s interesting seeing Lucy after falling off of “Stephen Mountain” and playing with what happens when they do meet again in the future. Is she able to stay away from him? Probably not, and in future seasons we will start to go a little bit more frequently between the two timelines and explore the adult years more as well.”

Lovering seems to be on board as well. “I would love for the show to go on for as long as Meaghan wants to keep creating seasons,” she told us.
