Allen Lazard knows exactly why Aaron Rodgers is playing through injury
Aaron Rodgers expects to play against the Chicago Bears despite suffering an injury the previous week, and Allen Lazard knows why he wants to play.
After Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a rib injury against the Eagles in Week 12, his game status for Week 13 was unknown.
While appearing on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, Rodgers revealed that he received “good scans” and expects to play on Sunday against the Chicago Bears.
On Wednesday, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters that he expects Rodgers to suit up and play on Sunday.
Allen Lazard knows why Aaron Rodgers wants to play against the Bears.
When Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard was asked about his thoughts on Rodgers playing through the injury in the upcoming game against Chicago, Lazard answered:
“I think he’s still gotta renew his ownership…you gotta do that twice a year.”
Lazard is referring to when Rodgers scored a touchdown against the Bears in Week 6 of the 2021 season and shouted, “I still own you” to the Bears fans in attendance. Rodgers later claimed that the Bears fans had taken offense to his touchdown celebration, and he responded to them.
As it stands, Rodgers has a 23-5 career record against the Bears, with the most recent win being in September of this year, so his claim that he owns them is not too far-fetched.
After suffering the injury against the Eagles, Rodgers was forced to exit the game, and backup quarterback Jordon Love entered the game.
Love had six completions on nine attempts and one passing touchdown. With Love looking impressive in the short time he played, many fans are questioning why he is not replacing Rodgers as the starter, as Rodgers is now more injured than he already was.
Rodgers also recently revealed that he has been playing with a broken thumb that he suffered in Week 5.
Although the Packers season has been subpar by previous year’s standards, Rodgers’ stats are among the best in the league. He is currently tied for 9th for passing yards with 2,682 and is 4th overall for passing touchdowns with 21, proving he can still play at a high level.
Although they are not eliminated just yet, the Packers are 4-8, and their playoff hopes seem to move further and further away as the weeks go by. Should the Packers see if they have anything special in their former first-round pick, Jordon Love, or should they let Rodgers finish the season?
Rodgers is adamant that he can still play and wants to finish the season, but maybe Lazard is right; perhaps the only reason Rodgers wants to play is that he wants to remind Bears fans once again that he owns their team, or maybe Rodgers does not want to lose his starting job to Love. Or perhaps Rodgers is the same strong-willed competitor he has always been.
