Damien Harris supporting women’s rights with cleats in Week 13
Damien Harris will support women’s rights with his cleats in Week 13. The NFL’s week of My Cause My Cleats begins on Thursday Night Football.
Every year the NFL has a special week where players and coaches don their own uniquely designed cleats representing their chosen charities or organizations.
My Cause My Cleats allows players to express their commitment to their most important causes.
Speaking on the My Cause My Cleats, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said, “Our players are passionate supporters of many charitable causes and serve as changemakers in their communities. We are excited to build upon last year’s success and work with our players to expand this unique platform that enables them to raise awareness for causes they support.”
Damien Harris supports women’s rights
This year New England Patriots running back Damien Harris will be supporting the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts.
The cleats read “Her body. Her choice” in bold blue. In a tweet posted by Harris, he says he is thankful for the opportunity to support the women of America in their battle for regulation of their bodies.
Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization that provides reproductive health care in the United States and globally. Harris’ cleats are not the first time the NFL has supported Planned Parenthood. In 2019, Planned Parenthood was one of the Green Bay Packers’ annual grant fund recipients. The Packers’ support of the organization drew backlash from pro-life supporters, and no doubt so will Harris’.
Although Harris will not play in the Thursday Night game against the Buffalo Bills, his support of women will be appreciated by those who need it.
The other charities the Patriots will be supporting
The causes chosen reflect the Patriots’ passions off the field, whether they have personal ties to the cause or want to use their platform to bring awareness.
Starting quarterback Mac Jones will represent the Boys and Girls Club of Boston. Damien Harris’ fellow running back, Rhamondre Stevenson, will represent One Mindset Foundation, which supports youth mentoring and emotional and motivational support. Head coach Bill Belichick will support youth wellness with his own Bill Belichick Foundation.
Some Patriots players will honor their foundations. Lawrence Guy will represent the Lawrence Guy Family Foundation, and Deatrich Wise Jr. will honor his Wise Up Foundation. Trent Brown will represent his TB77 Cares, Davon Godchaux will honor the CHAUXDOWN Foundation, and Kendrick Bourne will represent his BOURNEBLESSED Foundation.
