Bengals prove to be Chiefs kryptonite after third-straight win: Best memes, tweets

The Cincinnati Bengals proved once again to be the kryptonite of the Kansas City Chiefs after their 27-24 win in Week 13.

Last season, the Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs met twice, both of which happening in this past January. The Bengals were victorious both times, including in the AFC Championship Game to earn a berth in Super Bowl 56.

In Week 13, the two teams faced off once again, and there was already talk heading into the matchup through the media and on Twitter. It was a battle for bragging rights, and Cincinnati once again retained them.

On Sunday, the Bengals defeated the Chiefs 27-24 behind a 286-yard and two touchdown performance from quarterback Joe Burrow.

After trailing 24-17 following an incredible goal-line touchdown run by Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Bengals responded on their next two drives. Cincinnati cut the deficit to 24-20 on a 41-yard field goal by Evan McPherson and got the football back to plays later following a fumble by Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce. 10 plays later, Burrow connected with Chris Evans for the go-ahead touchdown.

Bengals show they own the Chiefs: Best reactions

This is Cincinnati’s third head-to-head win over Kansas City. Twitter users discussed whether they thought the Bengals owned the Chiefs.

Cincinnati’s offense received a boost from the return of star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who was sidelined since Week 9 due to a hip injury. He received eight targets from Burrow, and caught seven of them for 97 yards. One of those catches went for 40-yards, which included a hurdle over safety Juan Thornhill.

As for Mahomes, he once again used his arm and his legs to get into the end zone. But it just wasn’t enough to get the win over the Bengals. Mahomes finished his day completed 16-of-27 pass attempts for 223 yards and a touchdown, while running for nine yards and a touchdown on two carries.

With this loss, Kansas City falls out of the No. 1 spot in the AFC standings. That now belongs to the Buffalo Bills following their win over the New England Patriots this past Thursday.

The Bengals have been the kryptonite to the Chiefs as of late. It will only be a matter of time until these two teams meet again, potentially in the playoffs.
