Ja’Marr Chase’s achieves feat only Randy Moss had done before

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase has joined Randy Moss in the history books after his Week 14 performance.

Ever since he made the jump from the LSU Tigers to the NFL, Ja’Marr Chase has been a true game-changer for the Cincinnati Bengals. It certainly helps that he reunited with his former teammate in quarterback Joe Burrow, but nonetheless, Chase has made an immediate impact this early in his NFL career.

On Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, Chase recorded 10 receptions for 119 yards and one touchdown on 15 targets in the 23-10 victory. With this game in the books, Chase has made history.

As noted by Jay Morrison of The Athletic, Chase has now recorded 2,276 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns since entering the league in 2021. At the age of 22 years and 285 days, Chase is now the second wide receiver to record at least 2,000 yards receiving and 20 receiving touchdowns before the age of 23.

The other receiver to accomplish this feat? None other than Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss.

Not bad company to be a part of in terms of NFL statistics.

Chase was selected with the fifth-overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to reunite with Burrow in Cincinnati. This was over a year after the duo won the College Football Playoff national championship on the dominant 2019 LSU team.

In his first year in the NFL, Chase caught 81-of-128 targets for 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns in 17-regular season games. Those numbers helped Chase win the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year after receiving 42-of-50 votes.

This year, Chase had missed four games from Week 9 until Week 13 after suffering a hip injury. But he returned to his regular, dominant self since his return.

Entering Week 14, Chase had posted 54 receptions for 702 yards and six touchdowns on 82 targets.

With his touchdown against the Browns in Week 14, Chase is now in the history books.
