Eagles appear to avoid disaster with key injury from Giants win

The Philadelphia Eagles got some good news on right tackle Lane Johnson, whose injury against the Giants was not a major one.

The Eagles clinched the playoffs with a 48-22 victory over the New York Giants but the game wasn’t a complete celebration because right tackle Lane Johnson suffered an injury during it.

The three-time Pro Bowler who has started 125 games with Philadelphia had to come out of Sunday’s game because he felt a tweak in his abdomen.

The good news? It’s not a serious problem, according to Ian Rapoport.

Lane Johnson injury update: RT day-to-day with an abdomen issue

“Eagles RT Lane Johnson, who went down Sunday with an abdominal injury, did not suffer a major injury and is considered day-to-day, source said. Some good news,” Rapoport tweeted.

A long-term injury for Johnson could have been devastating to the Eagles. The news that Johnson is day-to-day is the best thing the team and its fans could have hoped for.

There were signs that this might not be a major issue for Johnson. He said after the game that he could have kept playing if Philadelphia didn’t have such a significant lead over New York. Still, without the certainty of a scan, any outcome was on the table.

The victory over the Giants moved the Eagles to 12-1 with their lone loss coming five weeks ago to the Commanders. Their four recent wins over the Colts, Packers, Titans and Giants have proven that outing was more fluke than warning sign.

The next four weeks are about locking in the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. Philly will travel to play the Bears and Cowboys before finishing the season with two home games against the Saints and Giants. Short of a setback, Johnson will be around to contribute in those games.
