Garrett Wilson alleges ref took vicious dig at WR on uncalled late hit

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson complained about getting no calls while revealing an NFL ref took a dig at his Ohio State connection.

Garrett Wilson is getting beat up in the NFL and the refs aren’t doing anything about it.

That’s what the rookie Jets wide receiver highlighted on Twitter after he took a late hit on the sideline against the Bills.

When Michael Nania of Jets X-Factor posted a video of Wilson taking that hit, the WR responded with a wild anecdote.

Garrett Wilson shared how a ref told him, “This ain’t [Ohio] State no more”

“I ain’t got a call all season… one ref told me ‘this ain’t O State no more.’ Crazy,” Wilson tweeted.

To be clear, the ref didn’t tell him that after the hit in question. Wilson later clarified that the quote about not being at Ohio State anymore came earlier this season while the Jets were playing the Patriots.

“First patriots game @ home was when a ref told me this I forget his field number,” Wilson said.

Either way, that’s not a good look for the ref. And it’s not a good look for the league that that hit out of bounds went unpunished.

The Jets drafted Wilson with the No. 10 pick in 2022. The Ohio State star was coming off a 2021 season with 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns.

This year, Wilson has repaid that selection with exceptional production. He has 63 receptions for 868 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games and eight starts.

In that game against the Patriots he mentioned, Wilson had six catches for 115 yards. He had six catches for 78 yards in the 20-12 loss to the Bills.

Considering the way protects NFL quarterbacks (See: The absurd roughing the passer call on this Justin Herbert sack), it’s surprising they don’t seem more interested in protecting their young stars like Wilson.
