Mecole Hardman’s tweet after return from injury will fire up Chiefs fans

The Kansas City Chiefs have been without Mecole Hardman since Week 9 but, after being activated off of IR, the receiver delivered a good message.

Over the last five games, the Kansas City Chiefs have gone 4-1 and have looked the part of Super Bowl contenders. Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes has continued to insert himself into the MVP conversation. All of that is more impressive when you consider they’ve been taking the field without one of the top pass-catchers, Mecole Hardman.

Hardman suffered an abdominal injury early in the season and was eventually placed on injured reserve. On Wednesday, however, the team designated him to return from IR. Now he’ll begin the ramp-up period to get back on the field for the Chiefs.

With that, Hardman had his first practice — albeit a light one — on Wednesday with Kansas City. And his message on Twitter thereafter should be something that fans will get fired up about.

Chiefs: Mecole Hardman working back to huge return for Kansas City

Yes, that’s not a groundbreaking message from the wide receiver, but it’s one that shows that he’s working his way back and making progress “one day at a time” to get back on the field. And that’s why Chiefs fans should be excited.

Prior to hitting IR, Hardman looked to be on the verge of having a breakout season after a slow start. In Week 5 against the Raiders, he hauled in 4-of-5 targets for 73 yards. He then had at least three catches and a touchdown in each of Kansas City’s next three games, including rushing for two scores and catching a touchdown against the 49ers in Week 7 and also going for six receptions and 79 yards against the Titans in Week 9.

One thing that has been missing from the Chiefs offense recently, despite Mahomes’ and the team’s success, has been a bonafide third option in the passing game behind Travis Kelce and JuJu Smith-Schuster.

Subsequently, if Hardman can continue to follow his own message and get back on the field, that’s only going to make Kansas City more dangerous as they gear up for the postseason.
