Patriots DE blasts NFLPA in Tweet over ‘random’ drug tests

Patriots defensive end Matthew Judon doesn’t believe the drug tests he’s asked to participate in are random.

New England Patriots defensive end Matthew Judon is putting together another high-quality year. There’s a good chance he could nab his fourth-straight Pro Bowl appearance and third straight representing the Patriots.

Judon has 26 quarterback hits, already second-most in his career with several weeks to go. He’s also pacing for the most combined tackles in a single season of his career.

His quality play has caught the attention of not only Patriots fans, but also possibly skeptics who want to make sure there’s nothing amiss giving him a little extra juice.

Matthew Judon calls out NFLPA for repeated random drug tests

There’s a running joke that players who play really well tend to get “randomly” selected for drug tests shortly after strong performances, leading to a lack of confidence that the drug tests are actually random after all.

Judon is adding to that conspiracy theory with a recent Tweet where he said:

“Dear @NFLPA @NFL leave me the F alone please. It’s no way this is random. I take melatonin to sleep sometimes. The rest is just vibes”

The Tweet included a screenshot of the text message notifying Judon of his need to test.

Previous call-outs of the tests not actually being random are usually in good taste and meant to be humorous, but it appears as if Judon is actually frustrated with the process and being targeted simply because he’s playing so well.

Thomas Morstead, Dolphins punter who pulled off the “Ambush Kick” in Super Bowl XLIV for the Saints, poked fun at the process himself in 2019 but also put any doubts to bed since he’s on the NFLPA executive committee:

The tests are probably random. But Judon’s situation and frustration make you think twice about it…
