Commanders screwed by horrendous missed DPI on Giants: Best memes and tweets
The refs denied the Washington Commanders the chance to force overtime with the Giants on a miserable missed pass interference call.
NFL refs are human. Sometimes too human. If you’re a Commanders fan, they’re sometimes blind as well.
That’s the only explanation for the referees not throwing a flag on the decisive play at the end of the game as Washington attempted to tie the game to force overtime.
Darnay Holmes was wrapped all over Curtis Samuel as Taylor Heinicke tried to find him on fourth down at the Giants six-yard line with under a minute to play.

Refs screwed Commanders with missed blatant PI on Giants
There is no universe where that’s not pass interference. It’s an obvious call. Anyone with eyes can see it.
As NBC rules expert Terry McAulay pointed out, the refs were just fine calling a ticky-tack illegal formation on the Commanders to wipe out a touchdown just a couple of plays earlier. Being unwilling to throw the flag in that moment was ridiculous.
“It’s clearly a foul”, McAuley said on the NBC broadcast after the game while showing the replay of the incident. “He grabs his arm, he plays through the back and it’s clearly before the ball gets there. This is defensive pass interference and it really should be called whether it’s the end of the game, the beginning of the game, doesn’t matter; it’s always a foul and should have been called.”
Plays like that make people wish there was replay review for penalties. The video booth could have made that right, even if review for penalties would also open up a host of other issues. At least this night wouldn’t have felt so cheap.
With the fourth-down stop, the Giants got to take a knee to end the game at 20-12. The win moved them one step closer to a playoff berth while clinching a playoff spot for the Cowboys as well. Let the conspiracy theories begin.
