Here’s what T.Y. Hilton thinks of the Cowboys potentially adding OBJ, too

T.Y. Hilton was not the veteran receiver Cowboys fans thought they were going to add. Here’s what he thinks about Odell Beckham Jr. being added to the fold.

All signs are pointing back toward the Dallas Cowboys signing Odell Beckham Jr. at some point this season. Jerry Jones sounded confident and all but guaranteed that Beckham would be suiting up for Dallas.

But before that signing becomes official (if it ever does), the Cowboys didn’t sit on their hands. They added receiver T.Y. Hilton to their squad. Hilton brings a veteran presence and a needed extra threat for quarterback Dak Prescott to throw to.

The signing came after Beckham’s readiness was put into question, with him evidently unable to go physically until the postseason. Beckham is recovering from a torn ACL he suffered during last year’s Super Bowl win with the Los Angeles Rams.

Hilton is now the star veteran… So how would he feel about the Cowboys adding Beckham?

Here’s what T.Y. Hilton thinks of the possibility of Cowboys adding Odell Beckham Jr.

Ian Rapoport reported on the Cowboys drawn-out and continual pursuit of OBJ this morning, and included a nugget about what Hilton has said about the Cowboys possibly adding the star receiver:

“When the Cowboys signed Hilton, a member of the organization actually asked Hilton, “How would you feel if we signed Beckham, too,” according to a source with knowledge of the team’s actions. Hilton’s response was along the lines of, “That’s great. I’m here to win a Super Bowl.” Hilton would have been totally fine with it”

Well, there you have it. That’s the upside of bringing in established, veteran players. There are no hurt egos or superfluous drama that they bring to the table with them, usually. It might have been easy for Hilton to view the Cowboys thinking about adding Beckham after they brought him in as subversive or a subtle question of his skillset. Instead, seeing it as a value-add for the overall mission of the Super Bowl pursuit speaks to exactly what the Cowboys need at this stage in the season: Final pieces who have their eye on the prize.

Now the question, of course, is whether or not Beckham feels that way, too. Undoubtedly he’d like to win another Super Bowl and take part in pushing a team to the top, but he also is still asking for a contract that spans the rest of this year and next season, with guaranteed money according to Rapoport.

Whatever the outcome is, Hilton is excited about it. He either gets to be a primary receiving threat or play alongside one of the other great receivers of his generation. A win-win, for sure.
