Andy Reid makes convincing pitch for Patrick Mahomes as NFL MVP

Sure, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is a little biased in his own right, but he made a good pitch for Patrick Mahomes to be NFL MVP.

Patrick Mahomes had to be perfect for the Chiefs on Sunday, as they needed overtime to defeat the Houston Texans and clinch the AFC West in the process.

Mahomes is among a solid group of MVP frontunners — players like Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, Bengals QB Joe Burrow and Bills QB Josh Allen all have an argument — but the Chiefs signal-caller leads them all in passing yards and touchdowns. On Sunday afternoon, he added another three scores (two passing, one on the ground) to his resume, and is tied with Allen’s Bills for the best record in the AFC.

Should Patrick Mahomes win NFL MVP honors?

Andy Reid made a great case for Patrick Mahomes to win MVP, especially if he keeps up this regular-season case. His performance against the Texans was arguably his best of the season so far.

“You saw Pat and what he did. I mean, he took care of business today,” Reid said. “He went back to work and worked on it. I mean, you’re talking about a guy that, if he’s not the MVP in the league, I’m not sure what’s wrong with them.”

There’s nothing wrong with the league if Mahomes doesn’t win MVP, but it does mean the NFL has grown numb to the Chiefs winning ways, and No. 15’s creativity. We’re simply used to it on a weekly basis.

“But he cleaned it up and comes out, and we have almost 500 yards of offense, minus 100 of penalties. That’s a pretty spectacular day there. But that’s what he did. Great example of how you go back to the drawing board and make sure that you clean everything up,” Reid continued.

As for Kansas City, they have plenty to work on in the weeks leading up to the postseason. Regardless of seeding, the Chiefs aren’t a team that should be struggling to beat the Houston Texans.
