Still frame shows real Cowboys scapegoat for embarrassing loss to Jaguars

Dak Prescott threw the pick-six that ended the Cowboys’ embarrassing loss to the Jaguars but a frame from the final play shows where a lot of blame lies.

It was an awful Sunday for the Dallas Cowboys after things got off to such a promising start. Dak Prescott helped lead the team to a 17-point lead over the sub-.500 Jacksonville Jaguars but then things fell apart. The offense stalled, Prescott threw a back-breaking interception, and Trevor Lawrence started picking apart the offense.

That all led to overtime and, after Dallas came up with a nice stop on the Jags’ opening drive and then had the chance to score and get out of Jacksonville with a more-difficult-than-it-ever-should-have-been win.

Instead, Prescott tried to make a low throw to wide receiver Noah Brown that was tipped up and intercepted by Rayshawn Jenkins who then took it to the house for a game-winning pick-six. And of course, people were quick to blame Prescott for the interception that lost the game. But one shot from the final play might change your mind.

Noah Brown cost Cowboys dearly on game-ending pick-six vs. Jaguars

When you zoom and look at the throw that Prescott made to Brown, it’s clear that the receiver had the ball thrown right into his breadbasket but couldn’t secure it, which caused the ball to tip up into Jenkins’ hand for the pick.

As the tweet mentions, it’s a bit unfair to pile on Brown for this one mistake as he had one of the best games of his career overall, hauling in 6-of-9 targets for 49 yards and two touchdowns. At the same time, though, you have to come up with a ball that’s thrown exactly where it needs to be. And you have to wonder why Brown is getting targeted in that moment over the likes of CeeDee Lamb, Dalton Schultz, Tony Pollard or one of the top weapons.

Prescott is not free of any blame as he lost his rhythm for a bit in the second half and didn’t help the Cowboys keep rolling after a hot start. But blaming him for the final pick-six is definitely misguided based on what we can see from the play.
