Jerry Jones turns up the heat for Odell Beckham Jr. to sign with Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has turned up the heat on wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to make a decision. Will he or won’t he?

Dallas signed TY Hilton just a week ago, seemingly taking them out of the market for a top veteran wide receiver. Yet, Jerry Jones, Mike McCarthy and Co. insist they’re still willing to wait things out for Odell Beckham Jr., who when healthy has proven to be a Pro Bowl-level talent at his best.

OBJ hasn’t looked like that wide receiver since 2019, but he also hasn’t been healthy since that time period. In a few weeks, he’ll be cleared to play, but that’ll likely come when Dallas is in the postseason.

Is it worth signing Beckham Jr. now with the slim chance he could contribute in a playoff game, or is doing so without much practice time and game action dangerous? Jerry Jones turned up the heat on OBJ and his representatives Tuesday, suggesting that time is running out:

“As of this morning, we don’t have anything. I don’t have an assessment. The reality is that time is moving on down the road relative to playing in the playoffs, so every day diminishes our chances of getting (him) going forward,” Jones said, per Jon Machota.

Just a few weeks ago, I wrote that the Cowboys were wasting their time with Beckham. The point remains that he doesn’t have a timetable, and there’s a good chance Dallas and a number of contenders are wasting all this time on a player who won’t contribute at all until next season.

Beckham Jr. reportedly doesn’t want to play in the regular season. Doing so in the postseason, without any game action, would put an asset the Cowboys just spent money on at risk. Why would they sign up for that?
