NFL upset picks for Week 16 (Sell high on Lions, Eagles can stun Cowboys in top predictions)
There are several teams fighting for playoff positions over the final three weeks in the regular season, which means there are also teams that can play spoiler and bounce someone from a playoff spot.
That’s where upset picks come in, and the BetSided team is back with some more after a 2-3 performance in Week 15 kept us extremely profitable in these plays this season.
Our current record sits at 32-38 (+11.34 units), and we’re going to continue sharing our moneyline upset picks each week for the rest of the regular season.
Here’s who our team thinks can pull off an upset in Week 16:
Best NFL Upset Picks for Week 16 of 2022 Season
Philadelphia Eagles (+176) at Dallas Cowboys
Is this the ultimate underreact spot of the season?
The Philadelphia Eagles may not have Jalen Hurts due to a sprained shoulder, but backup Gardner Minshew is no slouch, and the Eagles are extremely talented across the roster.
This line has moved three points since open, but I think Philly is live to win this game against a Dallas Cowboys team that lost terribly in overtime in Week 15.
Minshew doesn’t need to do much with Philly’s impressive run game, and if Hurts does end up playing, I think the Eagles grab the win. I’ll take a shot on Philly at nearly 2/1. – Peter Dewey
Carolina Panthers (+130) vs. Detroit Lions
It’s time to sell high on the Detroit Lions.
They’re the hottest team in the NFL but their stats don’t hold up. Their defense remains the worst in the NFL, ranking dead last in the league in opponent yards per play.
Now, they face a solid defense in Carolina, who ranks inside the top half of the NFL in almost every metric. It’s tough to keep winning games with this bad of a defense, so I think now is a good time to fade them and take Carolina to win outright. – Iain MacMillan

Carolina was both the popular sharp and public play last week at home vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers, with the line moving from -1.5 to -3 midway through the week. Unfortunately, the Panthers’ efforts fell flat against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
I don’t think the same issue will happen again this week, even against one of the hottest teams in the NFL.
The Lions came back late in the fourth quarter after being stifled for much of the game vs. a very good New York Jets defense, and the go-ahead touchdown ended up being scored on a broken play downfield.
The Panthers present a similar type of challenge; with 15 sacks in their last five games, along with five picks and two fumble recoveries.
I’ve already bet the Panthers at +3 while it was still available, but this is a team ready to bounce back and potentially crush the Lions’ playoff dreams in the process. – Ben Heisler
Houston Texans (+188) at Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans are trotting out either a hobbled Ryan Tannehill or Malik Willis on Saturday against a Houston Texans team that has stayed close to the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs over the last two weeks.
While Derrick Henry has rushed for over 200 yards in his last four games against the hapless Texans defense, with the passing game rendered useless for the Titans, Houston can load up in freezing temperatures to slow down the bruising running back.
Houston has the worst record in the league, but the Titans are injured across the board and are still awaiting the return of Denico Autry, their best pass rusher, and Amani Hooker in the secondary. With Tennessee losing four straight, is this the perfect storm for the Texans to shock their AFC South foe?
With a low total, give me the underdog that has been frisky of late. – Reed Wallach
