Patriots apparently want what Alabama is having offensively

The New England Patriots are looking to the Alabama Crimson Tide to solve their persistent offensive issues.

With the New England Patriots de-inventing the wheel offensively, this Fake Evil Empire is turning its attention to college football’s dying Death Star to see if Bill O’Brien will leave Alabama.

Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network reported O’Brien would be a strong candidate to return to Foxborough to become the Patriots’ offensive coordinator once again. O’Brien had a great run of success as the Patriots’ offensive coordinator over a decade ago collaborating with Tom Brady. He would then parlay this into solid head-coaching tenures with Penn State and the Houston Texans.

Although O’Brien has had some success coordinating the Crimson Tide’s offense the last two years, one could easily argue Alabama got the least out of Bryce Young’s Heisman Trophy-winning talent. While Alabama defensive coordinator Pete Golding has had a plethora of issues on his side of the ball, Nick Saban has not struck gold on with his two most recent coordinator hires of note.

Even if O’Brien elevates the play of Mac Jones in New England, this move reeks of desperation.

For the Patriots to have success, they need to put Jones in positions to succeed. He may have been elevated by the talent around him at Alabama, but he can play at a high level in this league. Unfortunately, he has to deal with Matt Patricia and Joe Judge as his offensive coaches of note. Tennis balls taped to the hands and using No. 2 pencils on laminated play sheets are major issues.

At some point, we have to wonder what type of plays the Patriots will have to draw up on an Etch A Sketch after Bill Belichick spiked another Microsoft Surface into the frozen Gillette Stadium turf out of pure frustration. The difference between a Belichick Spike and a Gronk Spike is simply joy. One Patriots legend exudes it most triumphantly with his spike, whereas the other emits disgust.

Ultimately, we should want to see the Jones/O’Brien pairing work out in New England. Nothing is worse than seeing bad quarterback play or putrid offenses at football’s highest level. Getting on the same page will probably not be that difficult, as Alabama and New England’s offensive verbiage is probably one and the same. Regardless, O’Brien is about to be back in the NFL, baby!

The increasingly boring Patriots will be getting a lot more interesting if O’Brien makes his return.
