Packers grant former first-round pick his retirement wish

Former Green Bay Packers star Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is asking to retire as a Packer, and the Packers are making his wish come true.

Former Green Bay Packers safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is having another dream come true thanks to the team that drafted him. Though he hasn’t played a full season since 2019, he’s asked if he could retire as a Packer.

Green Bay accepted his proposition, and he’s set to retire at Lambeau Field on Friday.

This is particularly exciting as Clinton-Dix began his career in Green Bay and played the majority of it with the Packers. He was drafted in 2014, and he played with the team until being traded to the Washington Commanders in 2018. In 2019, he played a full season with the Chicago Bears.

In 2020, he signed with the Dallas Cowboys but was released before the season began, and he was signed and released by the Las Vegas Raiders, San Francisco 49ers and the Denver Broncos in 2021.

Under those circumstances, it’s understandable why he’s now opting for retirement.

Packers: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is ending his career where he began it

Clinton-Dix had a great college career. In 2012, in particular, he led the SEC in interceptions (5), had the second-most number of passes defended (9) and the sixth-best interception return yards (91). It’s no surprise Green Bay immediately gave him a chance in 2014.

According to the Packers official website, “In four-plus seasons with Green Bay, he registered 419 tackles (337 solo), 14 interceptions (No. 1 on the team over that span), 38 passes defensed and three forced fumbles. Clinton-Dix also started all seven postseason contests he played in for the Packers, posting 39 tackles (32 solo), three interceptions and 11 passes defensed.”

His career may have ended a bit earlier than most players, but he certainly played a good one and gets to end it exactly the way he hopes for, thanks to the Packers.
