Raiders fans want Josh McDaniels fired over Derek Carr decision

Las Vegas Raiders fans were not happy with head coach Josh McDaniels for the decision to bench quarterback Josh McDaniels.

The Las Vegas Raiders have not lived up to the lofty expectations they had entering the 2022 season. Instead of contending for the AFC West, they now hold just very slim playoff odds with a 6-9 record under head coach Josh McDaniels.

On Wednesday, the Raiders made the stunning announcement that the team is benching starting quarterback Derek Carr for their remaining two games. With Carr benched, former New England Patriots quarterback Jarrett Stidham will start in his place.

After the team made the announcement, Raiders fans took to social media to voice their displeasure over the decision. Some called for the team to fire McDaniels.

The Raiders were a team that made it to the playoffs last year under interim head coach Rich Bisaccia. The team decided to bring in McDaniels to be their head coach to help take them to the next level. They also brought in linebacker Chandler Jones and wide receiver Davante Adams to really bolster the roster in what is a tough AFC.

Instead, the team has underperformed, starting off the year with a 1-4 record entering their Week 6 bye. They have blown four double-digit halftime leads this season, something that has caught the ire of the fanbase.

However, McDaniels had received his assurances from owner Mark Davis that he will reman the head coach in 2023.

While that is the case, Carr may not be on the team. The team has reportedly benched Carr to avoid injury and keep his trade price high, per ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler. That, and Carr is going to step away from the team for the final two games to “avoid obvious distractions,” per NFL Network national NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

Carr may have not played all that well in recent weeks, but there are fans who don’t agree with the decision to bench him down the stretch while they’re still in playoff contention.
