Steelers finally doing the right thing with Matt Canada: Here’s who should replace him

The Pittsburgh Steelers will reportedly move on from Matt Canada after the regular season, acknowledging what fans have known since Week 1.

Matt Canada’s trajectory is an incredible one. How can a man who consistently fails when in power continue to move up the coaching food chain? It’s all about who you know.

In Pittsburgh, Canada got along well with Ben Roethlisberger, and evidently Mike Tomlin as well. He received a second season in charge of the Steelers offense — something fans knew wouldn’t go well — and failed miserably.

Surely, Canada will become our local political representative next.

Steelers reportedly moving on from Matt Canada

Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that those within the building (therefore in the know) expect the organization to part ways with Canada after the season.

“I fully expect a change to be made at the end of the season. The players know. The people inside the building know,” Fittipaldo said on a local radio appearance (93.7 The Fan).

The Steelers offense is one of the worst in football, and even with some improvement over the last few weeks thanks to a quarterback change, it shouldn’t be enough to save Canada’s job. He’s proven he’s a mid-level coordinator at best, and perhaps better served at the collegiate level.

Who will Steelers hire to replace Matt Canada?

Some outside options to replace Matt Canada could include the likes of Duce Staley, the current running backs coach for the Detroit Lions. Staley is a former Steeler himself, as well as a longtime Philadelphia Eagle. He’s made his way up the coaching ranks in recent years.

If Pittsburgh wants to go with a more measured, experienced approach, then Jason Garrett and Jim Caldwell are both available.
