Broncos take first step in poaching Jim Harbaugh from Michigan

With a head coaching vacancy to fill in the 2023 NFL offseason, the Denver Broncos are looking at Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh.

This season was supposed to be different. The Broncos, in no way, shape or form, were ready for what has transpired during the 2022 campaign.

After hiring Nathaniel Hackett in January of 2022, the Broncos went on to fire him in December, before he could even finish his first season on the job.

Hackett’s stint in Denver lasted all of five Kim Kardashian-Kris Humphries marriages.

11 months. That’s roughly 11 months — apologies for the distasteful, out-of-left-field reference.

Moving on, the Broncos are now looking ahead to their next head coach with a high-profile name in mind: Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh. According to Mike Florio of NBC Sports, the Broncos have reached out to Harbaugh in reference to their head coaching vacancy.

Harbaugh and the Wolverines were just knocked out of the 2022 College Football Playoff in a wild contest with the TCU Horned Frogs. That was a game many had pegged the Wolverines to win — and win it handily.

Of course, now that Michigan is out, the rumor mill will start churning around Harbaugh’s future.

The former San Francisco 49ers head coach has stated, in the past, that he is no longer going to pursue NFL jobs. Last year, he interviewed for the Minnesota Vikings head coaching position only to return to Michigan.

If he were to even entertain the Broncos gig, Harbaugh would be in for quite the challenge. Is he the guy to “fix” Russell Wilson?

Follow-up question: Why would Harbaugh leave a job like Michigan only to enter into the dumpster fire that is the Broncos organization, joining forces with a general manager who recently chose to call his quarterback “fixable?”

The 34-year-old Wilson has looked finished in his first year as a Bronco. His career doesn’t just look to be trending downward, it’s heading downhill quicker than the Seahawks would say “yes” to this trade all over again.

Michigan looks like a team that should compete for years to come, with the way Harbaugh has them running. Leaving Ann Arbor for Denver would be a hilarious mistake.
