It took less than a quarter for Commanders fans turn on Carson Wentz…again
Washington Commanders fans took less than a quarter to turn on Carson Wentz after he replaced Taylor Heinicke in Week 17.
With the Washington Commanders playoff hopes on life support, the team turned to Carson Wentz.
Just let that statement sink in, because it’s the nightmare reality that Commanders fans are dealing with in Week 17. Wentz replaced Taylor Heinicke, who has become a fan favorite in Washington, ahead of Sunday’s game against the Browns and the results were predictable disastrous.
It took less than a quarter for fans to turn on Wentz. In fact, Commanders fans were booing Wentz on the opening drive of the game after he threw the first of handful of interceptions on the day.
Wentz threw another interception a few drives later, posting a stat that has to embarrass anyone in the Commanders building who thought trusting Wentz with their playoff hopes was a good idea.
This is the guy that Commanders brass thought wouldn’t do any of the many, many terrible things he’s proven to be very adept at doing in the past.Things got so bad that fans were openly chanting for Heinicke to replace Wentz before the game even reached halftime.
It’s as though no one watched the Colts-Jaguars game from Week 18 last year — or any of Wentz’s tape in existence.
That’s largely rhetorical, because it’s clear that the Commanders did watch his tape because they traded for him before the season. This is the culmination of Washington messing around and now finding out. This is the personification of the ‘…but maybe it’ll work for us’ meme from Arrested Development, and Commanders fans are paying the price.
Not a great start to 2023 for Commanders fans.
