Patriots rumors: Robert Kraft made it clear he’s unhappy with offensive coaching staff

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft is reportedly unhappy with the offensive coaching staff.

The New England Patriots’ 2022 season has been a wild one. Despite having some tough losses, notably their Week 15 defeat against the Las Vegas Raiders, they are still in playoff contention. One of the more frustrating areas on the team is the offense. After Josh McDaniels left for the Las Vegas Raiders job, the Patriots had a big void on the offensive coaching staff. Instead of hiring an offensive coordinator, they opted to name offensive line coach Matt Patricia the offensive play-caller, and former special teams coordinator Joe Judge the quarterbacks coach.

One significant figure in the Patriots organization isn’t a fan of the setup of the offensive coaching staff, and that’s owner Robert Kraft.

According to The MMQB’s Albert Breer, Kraft made comments around the facility that “he’s not happy with where the offensive coaching staff is right now.” Breer’s comments were made during an appearance on NBC Sports Boston’s “Patriots Pregame Live.”

“I think that could lead to shuffling at more than just the play-caller spot,” said Breer. “We could be talking about a new coordinator coming in with multiple new position coaches. I think there are several guys on the staff that are going to be reviewed after the year.”

As Breer does mention in the video in the tweet linked above, Kraft is a fan of one member of the staff, and that’s tight ends coach Nick Caley. However, Caley’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

To say that Patriots fans were not thrilled with the offensive coaching staff to start the season, is an understatement. Patricia is known for his experience coaching the defense, but he did serve as an offensive assistant in 2004 and assistant offensive line coach in 2005. As for Judge, he coached one offensive position in his coaching career, and that was at wide receiver in 2019 with the Patriots.

After Week 17, New England’s offense has averaged just 312.9 yards per game and 21.3 points per game.

New England’s offense has been a source of frustration among the fanbase, and also for Kraft. Now, it’s a matter if changes are indeed made this offseason, regardless of whether they make the playoffs or not.
