Jeff Saturday went nuclear on Giants, Kayvon Thibodeaux over Nick Foles injury
Indianapolis Colts interim head coach Jeff Saturday wasn’t happy with New York Giants rookie Kayvon Thibodeaux’s sack celebration after Nick Foles’ injury, and he also called out his offensive linemen.
The Indianapolis Colts losing streak increased to six games this past weekend, after the team was blown out 38-10 by the New York Giants. This helped the Giants clinch a Wild Card spot and their first playoff berth since 2016. However, there was a ton of drama surrounding Giants rookie Kayvon Thibodeaux over his celebration after sacking Colts quarterback Nick Foles, who got injured as a result of the play.
Thibodeaux did snow angels on the field, and made a “night night” motion with his hands as he was on the sidelines.
Colts interim head coach Jeff Saturday was asked about the snow angel celebration by Thibodeaux, and he called it “tasteless” and “trash.” Saturday also called out his offensive linemen for not intervening.
Jeff Saturday calls out Kayvon Thibodeaux, own offensive line over sack celebration drama
“Yeah, tasteless from the celebration afterward, just trash, not a fan of it at all,” Saturday said, h/t James Boyd of The Athletic. “And yeah, disappointed from the O-line perspective and for teammates in general. We protect our own. I mean, y’all know me, man. I’ve been here a long time. So, I’m just gonna tread lightly. Obviously, I didn’t like it at all, and that’s where I’ll leave it.”
Thibodeaux’s celebration caught the ire of various members of the Colts team. Center Ryan Kelly, via JJ Stankevitz of Colts.com, said of the celebration, “that’s just horses**t.”
After the game, Thibodeaux said he was unaware that Foles was injured during his celebration, and noticed he was when he got up afterward.
“After a sack, you celebrate,” Thibodeaux said, h/t ESPN. “I think when I did realize he was hurt, that’s when we started getting up. When you are doing the celebration, you are not looking to see who is doing what. I hope he gets well, and I hope he is all right.”
Foles was carted off the field after the injury, where he was later declared out due to a rib injury. On Monday, Saturday revealed that Foles is sore and that he will not play in the regular-season finale against the Houston Texans. With that, Sam Ehlinger will get the start.
Saturday wasn’t pleased with Thibodeaux for his celebration, and he wasn’t thrilled that his offensive linemen didn’t intervene afterward.
