The Green Bay Packers are riding high after a massive move up the NFC Standings, but they should still be thinking about the future for Aaron Rodgers.

The Green Bay Packers have made an improbable run to favorites to get the seven seen in the NFC. After a dreadful 4-8 start, the Packers won four games in a row to get themselves right back into the thick of things. The latest was absolute domination of the NFC-North division-leading Minnesota Vikings.

Packers fans are thinking about the present, and that includes a run by Aaron Rodgers we should be used to by now. However, Rodgers is full of surprises, and this has been a very difficult season. No matter the result, this could be Rodgers’ last season in Green Bay. Is it likely? No, but it’s definitely not impossible. There is enough risk that the Packers should be preparing for what life might look like without Rodgers. Whether he decides it’s time to retire or that he is looking for greener pastures like we all thought last season, the Packers must look at its options.

Of course, we know Rodgers just signed a massive deal that will pay him more than $59 million in cash next season, according to Sporting News. That makes any of this complicated, but we’re talking about a complicated fellow. For now, let’s see the options the Packers have this offseason to start under center if it’s not number 12.

Best Aaron Rodgers backup plans for Packers: Jordan Love

Let’s talk about the obvious and the one who led us to this point in the first place. The Green Bay Packers spent a first-round pick on Jordan Love. The Packers have to decide whether they want to pick up his fifth-year option this offseason. The plan all along was for Love to take over for Rodgers when Rodgers decided it was time to move on.

However, the Packers have to figure out if he’s ready to take over the reins from Rodgers. Some called for Love to get some reps when it seemed like the Packers season was lost. Now, it’s a different story. The Packers beat the Lions next week, and they are basically in.

Love has no interest in being a backup forever. The Packers have to decide what they want to do with him soon. If Rodgers returns, Love will likely need a new home.
