The Green Bay Packers are officially on to the 2023 season after they were eliminated from postseason contention on Sunday night with a loss to the Detroit Lions.

The Lions came in with nothing else to lose, and head coach Dan Campbell let it be known that his guys were out to ensure the Packers stayed home for the playoffs.

That’s exactly what Detroit accomplished, and unfortunately for the Packers, they now enter a crucial offseason much quicker than they originally anticipated.

It was a good run to finish the year, but the Packers now turn their attention to some key offseason decisions. Three players, all important to this offseason for a few years now, likely won’t be back.

Packers who won’t return for 2023: Marcedes Lewis

The 17-year veteran, Marcedes Lewis, will likely call it a career after this one. It’s tough to see Lewis playing another year after the 2022 season, especially considering he’ll turn 39 years old in May.

Lewis was brought to Green Bay five seasons ago to be the stable, veteran presence in the tight end room. But, he was mostly brought in because he’s savvy in many areas of the game, specifically blocking.

As one of the more highly-respected players for the past decade and a half, Lewis has enjoyed one heck of a career that started with 12 seasons in Jacksonville. He did make one Pro Bowl back in 2010 when he caught 10 touchdowns, but other than that, he’s been one of the blue-collar, hard-working tight ends who does a lot of the dirty work.

It’s safe to say that 17 years is one phenomenal career, and that Lewis is likely headed to retirement in the near future.
