Steelers performed horribly timed CPR celebration in win over Browns (Video)

The Pittsburgh Steelers appeared to perform a CPR celebration against the Cleveland Browns, and clearly should have known better considering Damar Hamlin’s cardiac arrest last Monday.

After a sack of Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, Pittsburgh’s defense celebrated with what appeared to be a mock CPR. While no improv group will be coming for these performers anytime soon, the timing of the Steelers celebration is pretty awful to say the least.

Read the room, guys.

Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field less than week ago. First responders were able to save his life, thanks to nearly 10 minutes of CPR. Hamlin was taken to the University of Cincinnati medical hospital, where he’s been receiving care ever since. Thankfully, Hamlin’s condition has improved greatly, and he watched Sunday’s games from his hospital bed.

Steelers CPR celebration was horribly timed

Look, I’m not going to sit here and pretend this is the first time I’ve seen that celebration, or something similar to it. Heck, the Steelers defense has even done some version of a CPR celebration before, whether it be on the football itself, or on a defender after a big play as shown above.

Nonetheless, those involved clearly should’ve known how this would come off, especially as the NFL community supported Hamlin all week. Most fans cared very little about the remaining schedule, or their Week 18 matchups, waiting instead for updates on Hamlin.

It’s unlikely the sack celebration will be met by serious punishment, minus a fine and a potential statement from the team itself if it’s deemed essential. But the players involved should be spoken to, just to ensure nothing like this happens again.

This isn’t to say that the Steelers defense isn’t wishing Hamlin the best — several players even volunteered at Hamlin’s charity this week, and were among those who donated to the Cashing M’s Foundation.

But this isn’t a good look.
