Watch: Bears fans at Soldier Field celebrate Texans win

The Houston Texans won, which means the Chicago Bears got the No.1 overall pick, and the fans at Soldier Field went wild with the news.

The path to the No.1 pick for the Chicago Bears was simple. Lose to Minnesota and hope the Houston Texans could shock the world and upset Indianapolis.

It happened. Both sides held up their end of the bargain, and now the Bears are the owners of the No.1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

A last-second touchdown by Houston QB Davis Mills to TE Jordan Akins ensured that Chicago would jump from No. 2 to No. 1 in April.

Needless to say, the fans in Soldier Field who were watching the game went ballistic, not only because of the result but because it was Houston head coach Lovie Smith, the former longtime Bears head coach, that helped pull the dream off.

Chicago Bears fans went wild with the Houston Texans’ victory

This single moment could go down as a turning point for the Chicago Bears. They already have their franchise quarterback in Justin Fields. As such, the possibilities are endless. With over $100 million in cap space and now the opportunity to own the No. 1 overall pick, the 2023 Chicago Bears roster is going to look significantly different than the one trotted out in 2022.

At the same time, it is possible that the Bears do not own the pick come April because they will have traded it to a team that is quarterback desperate and, in return, have secured a haul of draft picks for 2023 and 2024.

Chicago could also still take the player they may want at No. 1 at a different spot and still have ammunition for the future. This would not be possible without having the top pick. No.2 would also have been a good spot to be in, but No. 1 provides more possibilities.

The Texans delivered, and the Bears are going to reap the rewards. The Windy City is usually gloomy, but maybe, just maybe, the clouds have lifted, and light is shining down on a franchise that has needed it for decades.
