Recent Super Bowl history gives Cowboys fans hope amid Dak Prescott INT issue

Cowboys fans may rightly be concerned about Dak Prescott’s interception problem, but recent Super Bowl history proves it can be overcome.

Dak Prescott led the NFL in interceptions during the 2022 regular season.

Obviously, that’s not a good thing, but Cowboys fans can take heart as the playoffs get underway. Leading the NFL in INTs doesn’t mean a quarterback isn’t capable of leading his team to a Super Bowl.

Matthew Stafford literally did it last year.

Recent Super Bowl history gives Cowboys fans hope amid Dak Prescott INT issue

Stafford had 17 interceptions in 2021, tying with Trevor Lawrence for the league lead. He went on to throw three interceptions in four playoff games, including two in the Super Bowl.

Like Prescott, Stafford also had his interception issues rear their head more ferociously as the close of the season arrived. He threw eight picks in the final four games of the regular season.

He managed to get things right with no interceptions in the first two playoff games last year.

Prescott, who threw 15 INTs in the regular season, can follow Stafford’s example by cleaning up his decision-making in the postseason.

The Cowboys’ first playoff opponent is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The good news? They had just 10 interceptions this season, ranking in the bottom 10 of NFL teams. So Prescott won’t be going up against a particularly ball-hawking unit on Monday night.

Prescott hasn’t been terribly turnover prone in past playoff appearances. He had three interceptions in four career appearances with no more than one in any game. However, he’s also 1-4 in those games.

Fans want to see their quarterback and their team take a step forward and actually deliver some playoff success this year. Ideally, they want a Super Bowl, just like Stafford delivered for Los Angeles. An early exit with or without a Prescott interception or two would not go over well for the quarterback, the coaching staff or management.
