Damar Hamlin’s recovery takes another remarkable step in the right direction

Just days after Damar Hamlin was given the all clear to return home to Buffalo, the Bills gave another promising update.

Damar Hamlin’s recovery has been filled with phenomenal news of late. Just over a week ago, Hamlin laid motionless on the PayCor Stadium turf, and received near 10 minutes of CPR.

Now, he’s allowed to return home and undergo rehabilitation with the help of team doctors.

It’s a stunning turnaround for a man beloved by many, not just in Buffalo and Pittsburgh but across the country. Hamlin has used his newfound fame to his advantage in philanthropic causes, like raising money for various charities.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott has already said the team will allow Hamlin to decide when, or if, he wants to return to the team facility this offseason. While his playing future remains up in the air with no real timeline given, Hamlin can receive the help he needs from team doctors.

“His health is first and foremost on our mind as far as this situation,” McDermott said. “And then when he feels ready, we will welcome him back.”

Bills: Damar Hamlin’s recovery is remarkable

Hamlin was taken to the University of Cincinnati hospital just over 10 days ago, with many teammates and fans wondering if he would make it through the night. With the help of medical personnel, Hamlin was eventually taken off a ventilator and was able to breathe on his own.

Since then, Hamlin has taken several steps forward in his recovery, and was flown home to Buffalo on Tuesday. There, doctors were tasked with “identifying any possible causes of the event, potentially treat any pathology that may be found, as well as plan for his recovery, discharge and rehabilitation.”

Hamlin was joined by his parents and seven-year-old brother, and has since been discharged. We wish Damar the best in what’s sure to be a long and arduous process of a return to normalcy. But if anyone can do it, it’s him.
