Rihanna Arrived Late in the Most Breathtaking Black Dress at the 2023 Golden Globes

A Best Original Song, Motion Picture nomination was to lure Rihanna out to the Golden Globes, albeit a little late. The Super Bowl halftime performer opted to attend the first major ceremony of the 2023 award season to celebrate her song “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever being up for an award. The track did not ultimately win, but Rihanna still had a major fashion moment, dressing in a dramatic black gown by Schiaparelli Couture. Her boyfriend A$AP Rocky joined her in a suit. The two snuck in during the ceremony after the red carpet had ended. The Hollywood Reporter‘s Chris Gardner shared footage of their arrival:

Rihanna spoke to Vogue in an interview published in November 2022 about the lengths she went to create “Lift Me Up” for the film while balancing new motherhood. Rihanna welcomed her first son with A$AP Rocky in May; she shared the first video of him on her TikTok at the end of December.

After having her son, “I took a little break, and then came back, and now I’m back outside,” she said. But despite returning to the public eye, she’s facing a new kind of tired as a new parent. “I used to get tired and just push through and keep going. This is a tired that you have no control over it. Your body is shutting down. And just recently I pushed through three days at the studio in a row—like, slept in the studio—to get a song done because it’s a project that’s really important to me coming out. I believed it, and I wanted to be a part of it, so I got it done.” That song, Vogue noted, was “Lift Me Up.”

She added she didn’t have much work-life balance then. “But everything is stimulating,” she said. “Everything right now is firing off. I’m excited. It’s getting me super-motivated, super-energized to do new things, to create, and I’m back in the studio and now we’re going to be back on stage for the Super Bowl. Which is just crazy that I even agreed to that, but I am, and I’m excited. Of course being a new mom is insane. It is lovely. It is epic, honestly.”
