The Raiders are reportedly set to be all in on Tom Brady in free agency and Las Vegas is making the right push at QB to save the franchise.
Las Vegas Raiders fans know that Derek Carr is gone. The veteran quarterback was benched for the final games of the 2022 regular season and now the franchise is looking for a trade partner. If they can’t find one, he’ll be released. But the natural follow-up to the Carr scenario is to ask who will be replacing him under center for the silver and black.
Tom Brady might be the name at the top of the front office’s wishlist.
According to a report from CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, the Raiders are planning to be “very aggressive” in going after Brady this offseason as his contract with the Buccaneers is set to expire and the expectation remains he’ll play in the NFL in the 2023 season, but likely not with Tampa.
Now, there might be some people who are ready to turn their nose up at the notion of Vegas signing a 46-year-old quarterback whose Bucs team was only slightly above mediocre in the 2022 regular season. It’s not hard to get that. But it’s also wrong. The Raiders want Brady to be a “program changer” and here’s why that’s exactly what he can be for this organization.

3. Signing Tom Brady gives Raiders flexibility in the draft
Coming into the 2023 NFL Draft, Las Vegas has the No. 7 overall pick and then has a host of other picks throughout that should be quite valuable, particularly on Day 2 in the second and third rounds. However, if they are solely looking to the draft for a quarterback, that could limit their options.
Tom Brady isn’t the long-term solution for the Raiders. The man is going to be 46 years old. Having said that, his presence solidifies the position for the time being. That then allows the Raiders to address the other big holes on the roster, be that in the trenches on either side of the ball, in the secondary, or somewhere else.
In that case, Brady comes into a better roster situation and then, when he’s ready to hang them up, the Raiders are in a better position to foster a young quarterback. It’s a win-win situation for the team’s long-term outlook.
