Jalen Hurts injury update: Eagles get great news

The Philadelphia Eagles received some very good news regarding quarterback Jalen Hurts just ahead of their playoff game vs. the New York Giants.

The NFL playoffs officially began this past weekend, but the Philadelphia Eagles just get started this upcoming weekend. After finishing the 2022 season with a 14-3 record, the Eagles earned the No. 1 seed in the NFC and a first-round bye. They also had the right to face the lowest seed that advanced to make it out of the Wild Card Round, which just so happened to be the rival New York Giants.

Ahead of the big game, the Eagles got some great news regarding their starting quarterback and NFL MVP candidate Jalen Hurts.

For the first time in nearly a month, Hurts was officially left off of the injury report, meaning he’s ready to go for the Divisional Round game on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 8:15 p.m. ET.

Back during the team’s 25-20 win over the Chicago Bears in Week 15, Hurts sprained his throwing shoulder when getting tackled by defensive lineman Trevis Gipson. With the playoffs nearing and the team being 13-1 on the year at the time, the Eagles opted to sit Hurts and allow him to heal up.

The Eagles lost their following two games against the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints before Hurts made his return in Week 18 for the chance to clinch the No. 1 seed. Philadelphia secured home field advantage after defeating the Giants, who rested their starters, 22-16.

While the Eagles rested during their bye, the Giants pulled off an upset, 31-24 win over the Minnesota Vikings behind a stellar performance by quarterback Daniel Jones in his playoff debut. While Jones showed that he could be a franchise quarterback, he will be facing a much tougher Eagles defense than that of the Vikings. Not to mention, the Giants defense will have to try and stop not just Hurts, but also the likes of A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, Miles Sanders, and Boston Scott.

Hurts got a taste of the playoffs last season when they faced and were eventually eliminated in the Wild Card Round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now, Hurts is looking to lead the Eagles to the Super Bowl for the first time since the 2017 season.
