Rob Gronkowski apologized to the Dallas Cowboys … kind of

Rob Gronkowski was forced to eat his words after the Cowboys took care of business on Monday.

The last of the NFL’s Super Wildcard Weekend’s games saw the Dallas Cowboys essentially obliterate Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The final score, 31-14, didn’t even showcase how badly Tampa Bay was beaten.

The Bucs looked dead in the water from the beginning. Dallas was simply on another level that night.

Former Buccaneers tight end and ex-teammate of Brady, Rob Gronkowski, went on the air with FOX before game day and called the Cowboys “pretenders,” but Monday night proved him otherwise.

Gronk had to retrace his steps a little bit and did so willingly on the air with Kay Adams.

“They proved me wrong this year … I gotta give it to the Cowboys.”

Good on Gronk for giving Dallas the credit they deserve, but he did go on to pick the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round, calling them “too stacked.”

Forget being “America’s Team.” Dak Prescott and the Cowboys will travel to Santa Clara and take on a 49ers team that’s become one of America’s favorites to cheer for this season, and for good reason.

The last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft ended up being quarterback Brock Purdy, who entered this year as the 49ers’ third-string option.

Now, he finds himself fully immersed as the team’s starter due to injuries to both Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo. He’s not just the de facto starter, but Purdy has played excellent football, especially considering the circumstances.

To say Dallas should feel good about themselves going into a game with a seventh-round rookie quarterback would be foolish. The Cowboys will have their hands full with Kyle Shanahan’s squad this weekend. Will they be able to pull off the win?

Better question: Will we get another Gronk apology next week?
