Chiefs fans now have to worry about Travis Kelce injury as Patrick Mahomes cleared for takeoff
Chiefs fans got to breathe a sigh of relief at Patrick Mahomes coming off the injury list for a second before seeing Travis Kelce listed as questionable.
Here’s the really good news, Chiefs fans: Patrick Mahomes has no injury designation for Sunday’s AFC Championship Game against the Bengals. He was a full participant at practice all week and looks good to go.
Relish the feeling that news brings for as long as you can, because here’s some news that’ll take some of the shine off: Travis Kelce is now on the injury list with a “questionable” designation.
It’s not time to panic just yet on that one. Kelce was a full participant in practice on Friday as well. However, he is dealing with a back injury. Even if he can go on Sunday, he could be limited.
Chiefs injury report: Patrick Mahomes cleared, Travis Kelce questionable
Along with Kelce, the Chiefs also reported injury concerns for wide receiver Mecole Hardman and Justin Watson, who are both questionable. The former has a pelvis injury while the latter missed Friday’s practice with illness.
Add in limited practice participation from JuJu Smith-Schuster, though with no injury designation for Sunday, and Mahomes’ receiving options are looking a bit beaten up at the moment.
When it comes down to it, having Mahomes fit and firing is the most important element for the Chiefs to avenge last year’s AFC title game loss. He suffered a high ankle sprain against the Jaguars and the degree to which it impacted his performance certainly had fans in KC sweating this week.
Fortunately for Kansas City, he looked mobile enough in the bits of action reporters got to see of him on the practice field. No one is under the illusion he’ll be 100 percent but at least there’s no doubt he’ll play.
Having Kelce makes Mahomes’ life that much easier though. Let the prayer circles commence.
