Patrick Mahomes injury update: Thursday practice footage revealed (VIDEO)

Patrick Mahomes’ ankle continues to be the biggest thing in the football world to watch this week.

If you were looking for a definitive answer today on whether or not Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will play in Sunday’s AFC Championship game against the Cincinnati Bengals after sustaining a high ankle sprain last week against the Jaguars, I regret to inform you there is no such answer yet.

But, we do have another day of media availability and some footage from practice to pass along, which will just have to satiate the masses for now.

What Eric Bieniemy, Patrick Mahomes said about injury on Thursday

Mahomes walked in and out of practice, again without a boot. He joked with reporters that he wasn’t sure what they could gather from him walking.

According to Adam Teicher of ESPN, Mahomes also said, “I thought I had a good day yesterday. Overall, better than I expected.” In regards to Sunday, all he said was, “We’ll see during the game. All I can do is prepare myself as much as possible.”

Offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy said Mahomes is feeling good, working through the sprain, and that he, “feels good” for Sunday.

Footage of Patrick Mahomes at Chiefs practice shows ankle is in decent shape

The Chiefs can say all they want about Patrick Mahomes’ feeling great going into the game, but talk is cheap. How is he looking?

There’s just a few seconds of footage available publicly. Mahomes takes a snap, hands the ball off, and jogs to the left. Not a lot of duress on the ankle, but the ankle is clearly not in a boot and is simply taped up. That’s good news for the weekend.

That’s it for now. Still some time for more meaningful updates, but it does seem like the injury is quite serious, but moving in the right direction as far as availability for Sunday. Barring a setback, it seems as if Mahomes will go against Cincinnati.
