Eagles Super Bowl trip made even sweeter by draft situation

For the second time in six years, the NFL team from the city of Philadelphia is headed to the Super Bowl. And things keep getting better for the Eagles.

It’s been an impressive season for head coach Nick Sirianni and the Philadelphia Eagles. The club tied for the best record in the league (14) in 2022. The Birds vanquished the visiting Giants (38-7) and 49ers (31-7) in the playoffs by a combined 69-14 score. The Eagles will play on Super Sunday for the second time in six years.

Kudos to general manager Howie Roseman, who didn’t make a slew of moves this offseason when it came to obtaining veteran performers. However, the club’s main acquisitions were top-notch. The Eagles swung a deal with the Tennessee Titans for former Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown. He finished with 88 receptions for 1,496 yards and 11 scores.

Roseman also added pass-rushing standout Haason Reddick via free agency. He led the club with 16.0 sacks and the Eagles led the league with an impressive 70 quarterback traps during the regular season. On Sunday vs. San Francisco, he finished with three tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Eagles’ Super Bowl run made sweeter with Howie Roseman’s accumulation of draft picks

But wait there’s more. That will come in less than three months, when a franchise headed to Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona, will reap the benefits of a deal that Roseman orchestrated with the New Orleans Saints back on April 4.

It was a multi-faceted trade that involved numerous selections. The bottom line is that the Eagles own the Saints’ first-round pick in 2032. Because Dennis Allen’s club finished a dismal 7-10, Philadelphia “earned” the 10th overall pick in late April.

If the Eagles defeat the Chiefs, they wind up final selection in the first round (31st overall) in April’s draft. If they fall short on Super Sunday, it will be the 30th overall pick. Combine that with the aforementioned 10th overall choice via the Saints and Roseman could be a busy man (again) come the evening of April 27.
