Tom Brady Career ATS Record and Total Payout for Bettors
When Tom Brady retired, my first thought wasn’t about his seven Super Bowls or three MVP awards or any of the records he set over his illustrious career. It was, I wonder how much money I would have made if I bet on Brady’s team to cover the spread every time he started.
Turns out, not as ridiculous of a payout as I had originally thought.
Brady finished his career with an impressive, but not outrageously-lucrative, 190-137-7 Against The Spread record in the regular season. In the postseason, you would have made basically nothing as he had a 25-22-1 ATS record in the playoffs.
That means if you bet $100 ATS on every Brady game during the regular season, you would have profited $3,400, assuming -110 odds on every bet. In the playoffs, you would have only profited $50.
Profit is profit in betting, but over a 21-year career that’s not even enough to pay for a weekly Mcdonald’s meal.
This is a good illustration of how hard it is to make money betting with the -110 vig. Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time and certainly one of the most successful players to bet on. But even he couldn’t bring substantial profit to betting loyalists.
For context, Patrick Mahomes’ career ATS record is currently 48-43-2. That means if you bet $100 on him every game so far, you have profited $20. Not retiring on that!
Brady retires as the GOAT quarterback in NFL history. He’s also up there in betting lore too. But for bettors who backed him through the decades, the payout isn’t as high as I initially thought.
