Derek Carr roasts himself over Raiders split at Pro Bowl Skills Showdown

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr roasted himself about his impending departure from Las Vegas during the Pro Bowl Skills Showdown.

Derek Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders are going to officially part ways by Feb. 15, which is when the quarterback is scheduled to be guaranteed $40 million over the next two seasons.

Carr was benched for the final two games of the season as a way to preserve his health for a potential trade. But this week, Carr was officially called back to Las Vegas, but not by the Raiders. Rather, it was to play for the AFC team in the Pro Bowl Game, as he replaced Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.

After Carr participated in and crushed the Precision Passing skills competition, Carr was asked by ESPN analyst and former NFL cornerback Ryan Clark if he’s even been that hot in Vegas. Carr then roasted himself and said no and that it’s “probably why I’m going somewhere else.”

Talk about humbling yourself. Credit Carr for being a good sport about the situation he’s currently facing with the Raiders.

Back to the Pro Bowl Skills Competition, the AFC trailed the NFC 55-48 in the Precision Passing contest. It was up to Carr to give the AFC the first three points of the weekend. And the soon-to-be former Raiders quarterback crushed it, notching 31 points to give the AFC the victory.

We wonder if this showing will drive up the Raiders’ asking price in trade talks with quarterback-needy teams.

The quarterback poked fun at himself when he found out that he would be part of the Pro Bowl, saying that maybe this invitation was lost from one of his past seasons.

Carr stepped away from the Raiders during the final two games of Las Vegas’ season. Once the campaign ended, Carr released a statement on Twitter, saying farewell to the organization and fanbase. The team has until Feb. 15 until the aforementioned guarantees kick in. If no trade partner is found, then a release is likely for Carr, which would allow him to seek a deal with a team in free agency.
