Eagles could suffer massive loss before Super Bowl even starts
The Philadelphia Eagles could potentially lose a member of their coaching staff just prior to the start of Super Bowl 57.
The Philadelphia Eagles are over a week away from competing in Super Bowl 57 in Glendale, AZ. They reached this point after finishing the season with a 14-3 record, the best in the NFC, and defeating the rival New York Giants in the Divisional Round and the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.
But, ahead of the big game, they could they be in danger of losing a pivotal member of their coaching staff for next season.
According to ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen is scheduled to have a second interview with the Indianapolis Colts for their head coach vacancy.
Eagles OC Shane Steichen to receive second interview for Colts head coach position
When looking at the Eagles’ success in the 2022 season, you have to look at their offense. Having an NFL MVP-like performance by quarterback Jalen Hurts in just his second season, a potent running game headlined by Miles Sanders, one of the best offensive lines in the league, and a dangerous wide receiving corps of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, you can understand why a team would be interested in Steichen.
Under Steichen, the Eagles offense averaged 389.1 yards per game and 28.1 points per game, both of which rank third-best in the NFL. His offense has them on the verge of more Super Bowl glory for Philadelphia.
Prior to taking the offensive coordinator role in Philadelphia, he was the former offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers. After receiving the full-time position in the 2020 season, the Chargers averaged 382.1 yards of offense (ninth in NFL) and 24.0 points per game (18th in NFL), per ESPN.
While Steichen is receiving his second interview, it is unknown if there will be an end in sight for the Colts in their coaching search. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport, the Colts are considering holding a third round of interviews once they conclude their second round. As Garafolo notes in his tweet below, the Colts have interviewed a lot of candidates and some of the interviews ran around 12 hours long.
It would be quite ironic if Steichen would go from the Eagles to the Colts. Let’s not forget that the Eagles hired Nick Sirianni as their head coach after spending time in Indianapolis as their offensive coordinator from 2018-20.
There should be a better idea of where the Colts are leaning in their coaching search after Steichen’s interview on Saturday.
