Everything Derek Carr said about looming Raiders trade and what it means

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr received a Pro Bowl invite as an alternate, and he had plenty to say about his uncertain future.

The Pro Bowl, even in its current form as more of a skills competition, is an overwhelming joke. Derek Carr and Tyler Huntley received invites — and nothing against those guys — but they are not the best talent the sports has to offer.

Perhaps it’s the timing or just a lack of respect for the event itself, but players don’t rush to attend the Pro Bowl like they used to.

So, when Carr returned to familiar stomping grounds of Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, you can’t blame him for doing so with a goofy smile on his face.

Carr used his most recent television experience as an opportunity to turn up the heat on the Las Vegas Raiders, who all but abandoned him at the end of this past season in favor of Jarrett Stidham. Odds are, Carr will have a different home for the 2023-24 campaign.

Everything Derek Carr said about Raiders

Carr opened up about his future. There have already been conversations between the Las Vegas front office and Carr’s agent, meaning they hope to find him a new home shortly. Carr’s money becomes guaranteed after a certain date, which really amps up the pressure on the Raiders to make a move shortly.

“I’m just looking for teams that have made that decision consistently, that they’ll continually choose to do whatever it takes to put a winning program out there. And so, for me, I just wanna win a championship,” Carr added.

He also said he has no plans of extending the Feb. 15 trigger in his contract to facilitate a trade. Carr confirmed he hasn’t been given permission to talk to other teams.

The Raiders aren’t making this easy on their soon-to-be former franchise quarterback, and it’s understandable that there are still plenty of emotions at play.
