Jerry Jones preps Cowboys fans for many more years of misery

Buckle up, Dallas Cowboys fans. Based on Jerry Jones’ recent comments, the next several years will likely be littered with disappointments.

The Dallas Cowboys won a playoff game on the road for the first time in 30 years! They then followed that with…. yet another divisional round loss, extending their 27-year-old conference title drought. It’s the year of the Cowboys indeed.

Cowboys fans have felt the unmistakable pain of the team’s constantly disappointing playoff exits for years now, and unfortunately, they could be due for more pain and frustration in light of Jerry Jones’ comments.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had some interesting words for his divisional rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, in which he claimed the Eagles and the Los Angeles Rams took similar paths to the Super Bowl in the past two years.

Both teams went all-in to get to the Super Bowl this year; as for the Cowboys, well, Jones said he likes “where we are right now, more in the middle,.”

Jones said:

“Anybody who thinks I won’t take a chance, has misread the tea leaves. But I do think longer term. And I’m real hesitant to bet it all for a year…. That’s pretty impressive to have two teams in the last two years empty the bucket and get to the Super Bowl. But if you miss, it is a long go.”

Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys are playing the long game — but will they win it?

It’s hard to compare last year’s Rams squad with this current Eagles one. The Rams did in fact pay for their all-in strategy as they traded away vital draft picks and failed to build upon their Super Bowl success. They went 5-12 in the NFC West this season, putting together one of the worst league records after a Super Bowl win in recent history.

The Eagles have yet to win this year’s Super Bowl, but from an unbiased perspective, they made all the right moves to get there. Philly fleeced the New Orleans Saints last offseason for extra draft capital and currently hold the No. 10 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The biggest trade they made was for wide receiver A.J. Brown in a move should continue paying off for the Eagles in the future.

It’s worth noting that the Eagles also have more cap space for 2023 than the Cowboys, allowing them to potentially sign another high-profile free agent or make a trade to keep their roster competitive.

Jerry Jones can yak all he wants about a long-term sustainable model of success, but the truth is he can do nothing but watch as the Eagles take the stage against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII.

Sounds a bit like someone’s jealous.
