Surprise team looking to move up with Bears to No.1 in NFL Draft
The Chicago Bears are itching to trade the No.1 overall pick in the NFL Draft, and a surprise team entered the conversation.
It’s pretty clear by now that the Chicago Bears have a strong desire to trade the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
With so many holes to fill, trading back and acquiring pieces for this year’s draft and next year’s draft seems like the right thing to do.
But who’s gonna trade with Chicago? After all, it takes two to tango. Speculation suggests Houston or Indianapolis, but in a surprise twist, the Tennessee Titans are interested in doing business.
Tennessee? They pick 11th, which is pretty far down the board. To move up to No. 1, it will cost a hefty package that includes picks in 2024 as well. That’s what happens when you wish to move up ten slots in the first round.
The Julio Jones trade in 2011 required Atlanta to give up five total draft picks to Cleveland, including two first-round picks, two fourth-round picks, and a second. This was for moving up from 27 to 6—a 21-pick jump.
The Chicago Bears should not hesitate to drive up the price for the No. 1 overall pick in NFL Draft.
Going into the top 10 is difficult, but to jump up to No. 1 overall? That means the return value has to be too good to pass up.
If Chicago moves too far down the board, they lose out on a potential franchise-changing player. Still, they cannot forget their mission.
The rule of thumb is to have an elite offense and an elite defensive line. Offense first. That means if Chicago does trade down, they need to ensure that the best offensive player is still available.
It will be interesting to see how the Bears attack free agency and the draft. They have no excuses to lag, not only for Justin Fields’ sake but their reputation’s sake.
